In this report of the parliamentary panel, concern has been expressed over the constant delay in the outstanding amount of the Center regarding the wages of MNREGA and other things. According to data shared by the Union Ministry of Rural Development (Mord) in response to the parliamentary panel questions, (15 February 2025), a total of Rs 12,219.18 crore of 34 states and union territories is pending as wages, while the materials and other things have liabilities worth Rs 11,227.09 crore."Text-Align: justify;"> Center’s most outstanding in three states
According to data, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are among the most outstanding states of the central government, which owes 1,013.79 crore, 1,485.12 crore and 2156.10 crores respectively.
During the investigation of 2025-26 demanding grants, questions were asked about various schemes being implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development on behalf of the panel. According to the information provided by the Ministry of Rural Development till February 15, 2025, the total pending liabilities including both salary and material components are Rs 23,446.27 crore. It is 27.26 percent of the current budget, which means that the amount allocated will be used to repay the dues of the previous year more than one-fourth. & Nbsp;
The report further states that the actual work budget for the current financial year has come down to Rs 62,553.73 crore, which has made the ability to effectively work effectively and to prevent rural crisis and fulfill its primary objective of livelihood security. The committee found that even though the ministry has said the reason for the pending salary has not been obtained by the required documents, but this delay has created problems for the rural workers.
Center stopped the fund of Bengal, according to the panel of Bengal, no central funds have been issued to West Bengal under various other schemes including the financial year 2022-23 and 2023-24 and MNREGA for the current financial year and MNREGA as well as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G). The Center has stopped the distribution of funds under MNREGA to West Bengal under MNREGA since 2022 due to alleged irregularities in the functioning of the scheme in the state.
The central government has sent teams to review the functioning of the scheme in Bengal on several occasions in the last 2 years. However, the action report taken by Bengal in the alleged irregularities has been found unsatisfactory by the Central Government and hence money has been stopped. A case in this regard is also pending in court.
