Former world champion Carlsen has been fined US$200 for wearing jeans.
Five-time world chess champion Magnus Carlsen is out of the World Rapid and Blitz Championships. The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has issued a notice to him for violating the dress code and has also imposed a fine of about Rs 17 thousand.
According to FIDE, the Norwegian chess grandmaster had refused to follow the dress code at the World Rapid and Blitz Championships. He has also been declared ineligible for this championship.
At the time of the tournament, the chief arbiter asked Carlsen to change his dress, but he refused.

Dress code rules are drawn up by the members of the FIDE Athlete Commission. These rules have been in place for years and all chess players are informed about them before the tournament.
Carlsen won the Chess World Cup Champion in 2023.
