Recently, according to a research published in the Lancet Respiratory Medicine Journal, the cancer cases that are increasing in people without smoking may be due to air pollution. According to the study, such patients are now growing up who are victims of lung cancer but they have never smoked.
This research of Lancet has been done by scientists of International Agency for Research on Cancer and WHO. During the study, the data of Global Cancer Observatory 2022 was analyzed in which it was found that those who do not smoke are getting the most cancer named Adenocarcinoma. This lung is a form of cancer.
Adenocarcinoma is a cancer that develops in those glands that form fluids associated with mucus and digestive in the body. Researchers believe that this cancer is very less related to smokers, but air pollution can be a big reason for this.
More than half of cases that have never smoked
It was revealed in the study that, in the year 2022, all the cancer cases that were reported around the world, there were 53-70 percent people who had never smoked.
The study published in the lensate told that, in the total deaths due to lung cancer, the fifth place of those who do not smoke. This problem is increasing rapidly in Asian countries. Women are being affected more than this. In the year 2022, about 80 thousand women who had lung cancer have been directly related to air pollution.
Researchers believe that air pollution is an important contributor to the increasing cases of lung cancer. Especially pollutant particles like PM 2.5 and go deep into the lungs and damage the sales, which increases the risk of cancer.
IARC scientist Freddy Brey said, ‘The main reason for the cases of lung cancer in today’s time is increasing rapidly and the changing habits of smoking and air pollution. If this situation is to be avoided, then governments will have to implement tobacco control and air pollution control policies.
