The heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh for the last few days have caused havoc. The worst conditions are in Mandi district where 10 incidents of cloudbursts have been recorded. Due to this, there has been a huge loss of life and property and the general life has become completely disturbed.
Four incidents of flash floods and many landslides have come to light across the state. The maximum number of 1,57,000 cusecs of water of this year has been released from Pandoh Dam in Mandi, which has further increased the risk of floods in low -lying areas. As a precaution, schools and educational institutions have been closed for two days in all the affected areas.
Loss of life and property
The death of four people in Mandi district has been confirmed, out of which one has died in Karsog, Jogindernagar and Gohar sub-divisions, when two people have died in Gohar. Apart from this, 16 people are missing and 4 people are said to be injured.
There are 9 people stranded in Sianz village of Gohar, whose search is on. Emergency services are working round the clock to remove and save the affected residents. So far 287 people have been rescued, including 233 from Mandi, 51 from Hamirpur and 3 from Chamba.

Cattle has also been damaged in this disaster and so far 26 animals have died. 10 houses and 12 cowsheds have been demolished. Important infrastructure like Mangalore Bridge in sub-division Bali post has caused a lot of damage. Tunnel number 11 and 13 landslides on NH-305 have been closed, which is causing trouble in delivering relief materials.
Rescue and relief campaign
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have deployed two teams in the affected areas. The NDRF team is already present in Karsog, while other teams have been sent to Gohar and Thunag. The administration has appealed to the people to be cautious, avoid rumors and follow the instructions of the administration.
Officials say that the situation is being closely monitored and further information is being made from the district-level emergency centers.
