Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared a moment of his past with the people on 30 March, losing in old memories. He worked as a child artist in the popular Assamese film ‘Kokadeuta Nati Aru Hati’. In a scene of this film, he passes by riding an elephant from the Kapili Bridge in Kampur, Nagaon. Years later, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recreated the same scene of the film, although this time the opportunity was the inauguration of the newly constructed Kapili Bridge.

On the social media platform X (East Twitter), CM Sarma expressed his deep emotional connection with this place and wrote, ‘Kapili Bridge of Kampur brings a wave of old memories, because at this place I rode an elephant while playing the role of a child artist in the film Kokadeuta Aru Hati years ago. Today, when I inaugurated the new bridge here, which was a long demand for people, I could not stop myself from recreating the scene again.

Very few people know that before entering politics, Himanta Biswa Sarma spent some time in the world of Assamese cinema. The 1984 film ‘Kokadeuta Nati Aru Hati’ (Dada, grandson and elephant), directed by acclaimed filmmaker Pulak Gogoi, is considered a classic film in Assamese cinema. In this film, childhood innocence, family love and the bond between humans and animals have been beautifully threaded.

The film stars Dada as Dada, the late Nipon Goswami, Moina as Pranjal Saikia, Chetna Das, Nandina Sharma and Himanta Biswa Sarma as child artist. This nostalgic scene of the film ‘Kokadeuta Nati Aru Hati’ in Kampur, Nagaon, has been an important place for the local people. The Assam government has rebuilt this bridge. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s visit became an emotional moment to inaugurate the bridge, as he recalled his childhood association with this place.
