Business Summit in Assam: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Thursday (February 20, 2025) that Australia had lifted its restrictions on the visit to Assam. However, travel has not been allowed in four districts of the state where the Armed Forces Privilege Act (AFSPA) is applicable.

In a press conference held in Guwahati, Chief Minister Sarma said that Australia has reviewed the revised guidelines after reviewing the travel sanctions. Now Australian citizens can travel to all the districts of Assam except Tinsukia, Charidedev, Dibrugarh and Sibsagar.

Germany will also lift travel ban soon
CM Sarma said, “Australian citizens can now travel to all areas where AFSPA is not applicable. The Australian High Commission has assured us that if AFSPA is lifted from these four districts, they lifted the ban from the entire state Will give. “He also said that Germany may soon lift the travel ban on its citizens.

Trade summit will be held in Assam on 25 February
The Chief Minister said that the Mission heads of 35 countries have confirmed their participation in the upcoming two -day trade summit – “Advantage Assam”. This number can reach 50.

Business delegation of six countries will be involved
The Chief Minister said that the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has arranged for special aircraft to bring foreign delegations to Assam, which will bear the cost of the Ministry of External Affairs. He also said that the high -level trade delegation of Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Bhutan and Japan has confirmed its participation. Malaysia may also be involved in this. Sarma said, “We have received positive response by organizing road shows in these countries before the summit.”
