Coimbatore LPG Tanker Accident: An LPG tanker returning from Kochi in Kerala to Gandhipuram met with an accident in Coimbatore. On Friday morning (January 3, 2025), the tanker overturned, due to which gas started leaking. As a precautionary measure, schools in the area have been closed. Bharat Company’s tanker overturned near Uppilipalayam flyover in Coimbatore.

Due to gas leakage, the people in the truck immediately informed the fire department. The fire brigade personnel who reached the spot tried to control the situation by spraying water. Meanwhile, considering the seriousness of the matter, the police has stopped traffic on the flyover. Also, the traffic has been diverted through an alternative route. It is expected that this work will take more time to complete.
It is expected that a major accident will be averted only when all the gas comes out or gets mixed with water. Let us inform that after receiving information about the accident, senior police officers and engineers of the gas company have reached the spot and are investigating the matter. Although major damage has been averted due to the accident that occurred on Friday morning, vehicles like cranes have also been called to the spot.

Many schools had to be closed
Apart from this, all the schools within a radius of 500 meters of the accident site have been closed for today. District Collector Kranti Kumar Padi has announced this. In December 2024 itself, a major LPG tanker accident shook the country. There was an explosion in an LPG tanker on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway, in which more than 15 people died. Many were burnt alive. That accident was very terrible. Then a trunk hit the LPG tanker, after which an explosion occurred and 34 vehicles were hit one by one.
