The opposition India coalition has named a large -scale voter list amendment in Bihar as ‘Vote ban’. A delegation of 11 parties of the opposition India coalition met the Election Commission on Wednesday.
The India group wanted to share their concerns before the Election Commission. But the India group did not look happy with this meeting.
CPI (ML) Liberation General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya said, “Our concerns have increased even more after meeting the Election Commission as the Commission did not give satisfactory answers to any of our questions.”
Congress Boli- ‘Vote ban’ in Bihar will end our democracy
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh wrote in the X post- ‘Today representatives of the India alliance met the Election Commission on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Bihar. The Commission had to hold this meeting in compulsion, as he had refused to meet earlier. The Commission allowed only two representatives from each party to enter. I also had to sit in the waiting room for about two hours.
He further wrote- ‘The way the Election Commission (ECI) has worked in the last six months, has weakened the foundation of our democratic system. The Election Commission is a constitutional body. This cannot reject the demand for the opposition’s hearing again and again. It must follow the principles and provisions of the Constitution.
Just as the Prime Minister’s ‘demonetisation’ ruined our economy of November 2016, the Election Commission’s ‘Voting’- which is seen as SIR in Bihar and other states- will end our democracy.
Representatives of 11 parties came to meet the Election Commission
The delegation of the opposition India alliance reached the Election Commission’s office Election House on Wednesday. The delegation included Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal, CPI (M), CPI, CPI (ML) Liberation, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) and Samajwadi Party leaders. The delegation said that the Election Commission told them that only two representatives from each party would be allowed to enter.
Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, ‘For the first time we were told rules for admission to the Election Commission. For the first time it was said that only party chiefs can go inside. Such restrictions cannot cause necessary dialogues between political parties and the Election Commission. Today, only two people were allowed from every party, due to which leaders like Jairam Ramesh, Pawan Kheda and Akhilesh Singh stood outside.
Election Commission said- We resolved the concerns of all parties
After the meeting, the Election Commission issued a statement saying that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is being done as per the provisions of the Constitution and the law and we have responded to all the concerns raised by the leaders of political parties.
The Election Commission said that the process of SIR is being done according to the instructions issued on Articles 326, Public Representation Act 1950 and 24.06.2025 of the Constitution. As far as allowing only two representatives from each party, it was done to listen to different attitude and maintain balance.
