Complaints Against on Assam CM: The Congress on Thursday filed several complaints against Assam Chief Minister Himant Biswa Sarma for alleged derogatory remarks against women during the recent panchayat election campaign. In protest against Sarma’s statement on April 28, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) lodged several complaints in the district headquarters across the state.
Police has not registered FIR yet
However, the police has not yet registered an FIR and said that it is investigating the complaints. Sarma mentioned the statement of a witness from the report of the Biplab Kumar Sarma Commission, Justice (Retd) on irregularities in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) examinations for the years 2013 and 2014 (when Congress was in power) during the rallies related to the panchayat elections.
He had said that the witness’s statement said that during the Congress rule, women had to take a job to get jobs. “Party spokesperson Monalisa Barua Hazarika said,” District Congress presidents and other leaders filed a complaint in their local police stations, in which the Chief Minister’s comments were condemned which allegedly informs the character of the vicious women. “
Demand for investigation of Chief Minister’s statements
He said that the Congress demanded legal action under the relevant provisions of the Code of India (BNS) and demanded an inquiry into the Chief Minister’s statements. While filing a complaint with the Dispur police station in Guwahati, Metropolitan District Congress President Gopal Chandra Sarma told reporters, “The Chief Minister’s remarks, which doubt the sanctity of the women of Assam, reflects a deep retrograde and unpleasant mentality.” He also alleged that the Chief Minister’s ‘doubt’ towards women appointed during Congress rule is ‘unjust’ and this could cause serious social disturbance.
The Congress on Wednesday burnt the effigy of the Assam Chief Minister for alleged derogatory remarks against women and wrote a letter to the National Women’s Commission (NCW) demanding action against the BJP leader.
