Dhami said that Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib ji’s martyrdom is not only a Sikh, but a supreme and unique example in the entire religious history. Such conferences should be in accordance with Gurmat Maryada, Shraddha, discipline and honor of Gurbani.
He regretted that the language department made this sacred opportunity a medium of entertainment, hurting the religious sentiments of Sikh Sangatas.
Celebrate the work of religious institutions
The Shiromani Committee has already made it clear that the centuries and festivals of Sikh Gurus should be celebrated only by Sikh religious institutions. Governments often fail to follow Gurmat dignity. He said that this recent event of Language Department has proved the concerns of SGPC right.
Government should be limited to development work only
He appealed to the Chief Minister of Punjab to understand this serious negligence and ensure that the government limits its role only to development works. Sikh festivals are not just ordinary festivals or entertainment, but are dedicated to spiritual awareness and gurmat principles, which have activities like Shabad Kirtan, Gurbani recitation, service and Simran.
This incident insulted the martyrdom of Guru Sahib
Advocate Dhami stressed that dancing and singing activities are not only a violation of Gurmat principles, but also an insult to the martyrdom of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib. In the end Advocate Dhami demanded the Punjab government to publicly apologize and said that in future, clear and strict instructions should be issued to prevent recurrence of such incidents. He warned that the Sikh community will never tolerate any kind of disgrace from its religious traditions and the dignity of Guru Sahiban.
