An incident of rape of a minor girl and then forcing her to convert to religion has come to light in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. In this case, a case has been registered against a 20-year-old youth under relevant sections of BNS and Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act and he has been arrested.

Circle Officer Abhishek Pratap Ajey said on Tuesday that the accused youth has been identified as Akbar Hussain, a resident of Kushinagar district. He first kidnapped a Hindu minor girl. After this he raped her. Then the victim was forced to convert to religion.

Based on the complaint by the father of the victim girl, a case has been registered against the accused under sections 137(2) (kidnapping), 87 (forcing marriage) and section 64 (rape) of the Indian Code of Criminal Procedure, Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act and sexual offences. A case has been registered under the Children’s Protection Act.

Let us tell you that in September, a man was arrested in Barabanki district for marrying a woman posing as a Hindu and later pressurizing her to convert. The police took this action on the instructions of the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Sudha Singh.

The court had ordered registration of a case in this matter after the complaint of a 32-year-old woman. The name of the accused is Mohammad Azam Zaidi. He is a property dealer by profession. The victim woman had alleged that Azam had married her in 2016 by telling her his name was Aman. After this she reached her in-laws house.

There she came to know about her husband’s reality. When she protested, she received threats and was sexually harassed. After the woman’s complaint, CJM Sudha Singh directed the Kotwali police to take action. Police had registered a case against Mohammad Azam Zaidi.
