Court sentenced to life imprisonment by court, convicted in rape case

The special court in Bengaluru sentenced former JDS MP Prajwal Revanna to life imprisonment on Saturday (2 August 2025). The court sentenced him under sections 376 (2) (K) and 376 (2) (n) of the Indian Penal Code. Apart from this, the court has ordered a fine of Rs 10 lakh on the convict and compensation of Rs 7 lakh to the victim.

Court convicted in rape case

Special court judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat, a special court of MPs and MLAs, on Friday convicted 34 -year -old Prajwal in one of the four cases of sexual harassment and rape. During the hearing, the shrine appeared nervous and when the judge convicted him, he cried. He also pleaded for less punishment from the court. The hearing of the case was completed on 18 July and the verdict was reserved for July 30.

The case is related to a 48 -year -old woman working as a assistant in the farmhouse of the Revanna family in Holenarsipura in Hassan district. In the year 2021, the woman was raped at the farm house and Revanna’s residence in Bangalore. The accused recorded this act in his mobile phone.

26 witnesses were interrogated

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), who investigated the case, filed a 1,632 -page charge sheet in September 2024 with statements of 113 witnesses. The prosecution questioned 26 witnesses and presented 180 documents.

There are four separate cases against Prajwal Revanna, for which an SIT was formed for investigation. These cases came to light when the alleged pornographic videos allegedly related to the creature were broadcast before the Lok Sabha elections to be held on 26 April 2024. The SIT arrested Prajwal at the Bengaluru Airport on 31 May last year in connection with a case registered at Holenarsipura Town Police Station when he returned from Germany.
