In spite of heavy protests from people in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, Gwadar slaughterhouse has started. This is Pakistan’s first large -level slaughterhouse where their flesh, bones and skins will be removed and exported. Officials of the National Food Safety and Research of Pakistan (MNFSR) said on Thursday that production work in Gwadar’s slaughterhouse has started. Pakistan will sell these donkey products in China.
Pakistani officials revealed that China has entered into an agreement with Pakistan to purchase the organs of smells. A Chinese company is doing production in Gwadar slaughterhouse.
Questions are also being raised in Pakistan that if the Chinese company is working to kill donkeys, then why is China not exporting a living donkey and killing them in their country. On this question, Pakistani officials said that it is challenging to export living animals.
MNFSR officials said that in other parts of Pakistan, requests are being made to make slaughterhouses for donkeys. Pakistan is also interacting with other Chinese companies to invest in the region.
Opposition to slaughterhouses of donkeys in Balochistan
The people of Balochistan have always been unhappy with Chinese projects. These people say that the Pakistani government along with China is exploiting their resources.
The Baloch people allege that the government does not pay attention to their development and they do not get a share of the benefits of their own province. There has been a lot of protests about the slaughterhouses of donkeys in the province’s city of Gwadar. Local people are angry with the government of Pakistan about the slaughterhouse.
Millions of donkeys are being slaughtered every year in Pakistan
In Pakistan, donkeys have been used to carry goods, but now their relevance is decreasing due to excess of vehicles. The number of donkeys in Pakistan is about 59 lakhs and China is a major market for these donkeys. In China, donkey meat is eaten with great fervor and e-giao (gelatin used in traditional medicines) is made with its leather.
Pakistan used to export donkeys to China earlier earlier, but due to the absence of necessary protocols, this export was limited. Reuters, quoting animal welfare groups and veterinary experts, said in a report last year that millions of donkeys are being killed in Pakistan every year due to the demand of e-Ziao in China.
Pakistan also exports donkeys from Africa to meet the need of China and then sends their product to China.
What is E-Jiao and why do the rich people of China like it?
E-Ziao is made using collagen extracted from donkey skin, which is an important component of food and beauty products. Many people in China believe that it makes blood good, improves immunity system and prevents diseases.
E-Ziao became very popular among rich people in China during the King Dynasty, which ruled China from 1644 to 1912.
Its popularity has been seen in recent years and it has become a luxury in China. People use it as anti -aging. The reason for its increasing popularity is a TV serial of China ‘Empress in the Palace.’ This TV serial, which started in 2011, is shown the use of e-Ziao. One reason for its increase in demand is also the growing middle class and elderly population of China.
According to China’s government media, its price has increased by 30 times in the last decade, which has increased from 100 grams to 2,986 yuan (Rs 36,741) per 500 grams.
E-Ziao industry needs 59 lakh donkeys annually
The E-Ziao industry needs about 59 lakh donkeys every year, which has put heavy pressure on the global population of donkeys. In February, a report was released in February, in which this information was given.
According to China’s government-backed newspaper China Daily, E-Jiao has a 3,000-year-old history in Northern Shandong province. This province accounts for about 90% of China’s E-Ziao production.
There were crores of donkeys in China, what happened to them?
There used to be crores of donkeys in China at one time. In 1992, there were 1.1 million donkeys in China, which has now reduced by 80 percent to 20 lakhs. For this reason, China has to order donkeys from abroad.
In recent years, China is turning to countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan for donkeys’ skins. Muhammad A. Kavesh, director of the South Asia Research Center at Australian National University, said that most of the skins of donkeys are sent to Pakistan from Pakistan are in secret.
For example, in 2022, a shipment was seized about 10 metric tonnes of donkey Khal Hong Kong in Karachi. Kavesh said that the shipment was initially described as carrying salt and handkerchiefs.
How will China need be fulfilled?
Animal experts say that the contrast of pigs and cows, donkeys are very slow in breeding. The females known as Jenny are pregnant for about 11-14.5 months and then usually give birth to only one child.
The Donki Sanctuary said that to make e-Ziao, every year an agricultural system will have to be created for the supply of 59 lakh donkey skins, which can take more than two decades.
