40 people were killed and around 100 injured in a stampede at the rally held on Saturday (September 27) in Karur, Tamil Nadu. After this incident, actor and political leader Vijay’s party TVK has accused the state government that the incident may be a part of DMK’s conspiracy.
Petition filed in Madras High Court
TVK lawyer Arivajgan told NDTV that the party has filed a petition in the Madras High Court. The petition has demanded setting up a special investigation team (SIT) or transferring the case to CBI. He dismissed the state government’s claim that security rules were violated at the rally.
What did TVK lawyer Arivajgan say?
Arivajgan said, “There was a conspiracy in the Karur accident. We got reliable information from the local people and also have some CCTV footage. It shows that there was a conspiracy of some workers of the state power party.”
State government made these allegations
The state government said that a crowd of people had gathered at the rally site from noon, but Vijay reached at 7 pm. The rally venue had a capacity of 10,000, but 27,000 people gathered. The state government described it as an attempt to deliberately increase the crowd. The claim was rejected by TVK lawyer and said, “The reason for Vijay’s arrival was traffic, not the party’s fault.”
Charges registered against some TVK leaders
The state government has registered a case in the rally in the rally, alleging violating security rules, in other sections including murder charges against some TVK leaders. Also, a judicial inquiry has also been ordered under the chairmanship of the retired judge of the High Court.
