1. Dnyanesh Kumar will be the new Chief Election Commissioner, decided in a meeting chaired by PM Modi
The tenure of the current CEC Rajiv Kumar ends on 18 February. After this, Dnyanesh Kumar will take over from February 19.
The meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the name of Gyanesh Kumar as the next Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). He will take over on 19 February. His term will remain till 26 January 2029. At the same time, Vivek Joshi has been appointed as Election Commissioner. He is the Chief Secretary of Haryana and a 1989 batch IAS officer.
Rahul also involved in the meeting, objected to objection: Apart from PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi attended the meeting. On the recommendation of this panel, the new CEC was appointed. According to media reports, a list of 5 names was given for the new CEC. But Rahul refused to consider the names. He said that the matter is pending in the Supreme Court, so this meeting should not have been held.

3. BJP received ₹ 4340.47 crore donations in a year: spent 51%; Congress at number two
The Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) has released a report on the donations received by national parties. According to the report, in FY 2023-24, BJP has received the highest donation of Rs 4340.47 crore. At number two, the Congress received Rs 1225.12 crore.
AAP has 200 times less than BJP: The BJP spent a total of Rs 50.96% of its earnings i.e. Rs 2211.69 crore while the Congress spent 83.69% of its income, ie Rs 1025.25 crore. AAP received 22.68 crore rupees in donations, which is about 200 times less than the BJP received. BJP alone has got 74.57% of the total donations received by all parties. The remaining 5 parties have received 25.43% donations.
4. Pitroda, close to Rahul, said- China is not the enemy of India; Congress opposed the statement
Sam Pitroda, president of Indian Overseas Congress and close to Rahul Gandhi, said- India should stop considering China as its enemy. The danger from China is often exaggerated.
In an interview to news agency IANS, Sam Pitroda said-
Our attitude has been a conflict since day one. It creates enmity. I think we need to change this pattern. This is not good for anyone.
Congress’s statement: The Congress has opted out of Sam Pitroda’s statement. Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that Sam Pitroda’s views on China are not the idea of the Congress.

5. Mahakumbh- once again caught fire, fifth incident of fire in a month; Tomorrow 1 crore took a bath
The fire broke out once again in the Prayagraj Mahakumbh Mela campus on Monday afternoon. Due to the fire, two tents were burnt in the camp of Shri Kapi Manas Mandal and Consumer Protection Committee in Sector-8. However, there was no loss of life. Monday was the 36th day of Mahakumbh. Yesterday 1.23 crore devotees took a bath. Since January 13, 54.19 crore devotees have taken a dip in the Sangam.

- 19 January: There was a fire in the Gita Press camp in Sector 19, 180 cottages were burnt in the accident.
- 30 January: There was a fire in Sector 22, in which 15 tents were burnt.
- 7 February: Sector-18 was on fire. The accident took place on Shankaracharya Marg, in which 22 pandals were burnt.
- 15 February: Sector 18-19 caught fire. The fire was controlled in half an hour. Claimed that 2 bags filled with note were burnt.
- 17 February: Sector-8 caught fire. It was soon controlled.

6. New Delhi stampede case- CRPF deployed at station: counter platform tickets closed till 26 February
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Delhi Police have been deployed at New Delhi railway station. The central government has taken this decision to control the increasing crowd between Mahakumbh. Apart from this, the Railways has stopped the sale of platform tickets from the counter from 4 pm to 11 pm till 26 February.
18 people killed in stampede on 15 February: On February 15 at 9:26 pm, 18 people, including 11 women and 5 children, died at New Delhi station at 9:26 pm. 25 people were injured. Apart from this, 30 people died in a stampede that took place late on the day of Mauni Amavasya in Mahakumbh on the day of Mauni Amavasya.
