The Government of India has reacted to the recent statement of the Tibetan religious leader Dalai Lama, in which he had commented on the direction of the successor and the Dalai Lama institution. In this regard, Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal has issued an official statement.
Randhir Jaiswal said that we have seen the report related to the statement made by the Holiness Dalai Lama about the continuity of the Dalai Lama institution. The Government of India does not take any stand on the beliefs and traditions related to faith and religion and does not comment in this subject. He further said that the Government of India has always supported the freedom of religion for all in the country and will continue to do so even further.

What is India’s attitude?
Actually, the discussion about the Dalai Lama’s successor has intensified around the world. Despite having a Tibetan exile government in India and a large number of Tibetan refugee community, the Government of India has emphasized only the principle of religious freedom by adopting a neutral attitude.
China objected
Earlier, China had objected to the statement of Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, in which he said that the process of successor of the Dalai Lama should be as per his wish. China had demanded India to show sensitivity on it.

What did Rijiju say?
Rijiju had said in his statement that he has the right to take a decision on the Dalai Lama’s successor. This is important not only for Tibetans but for their followers worldwide.
