Air India Plane Crash: A big update has come to light in the investigation of Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft accident in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It is being told that the ‘Black Box’ of Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (Flight AI-171) has been damaged. According to sources, it can be sent to America to continue the data recovery process.
However, the final decision in this regard will be taken by the Government of India. If the black box is sent to the National Transportation Safety Board located at Washington DC, a team of Indian officials will also go with it to ensure that the international protocol can be followed.
What is ‘Black Box’?
The ‘Black Box’ is actually made up of two things- cockpit voice recorder (CVR) and flight data recorder (FDR). One recorder records the conversation of the pilots and the other collects technical data related to the flight. They play an important role in investigating accidents.
Capacity of cvr and fdr
CVR recording radio contacts and warning signals with the conversation of Cockpit, Bikragound noise, air traffic control. However, the AI-171 aircraft was delivered in 2014, when the maximum recording limit of CVR was two hours. At the same time, FDR records thousands of flight -related parameters and in modern aircraft it can store data up to 25 hours.
How did the accident happen?
Air India flight AI-171 flew from Ahmedabad to Gatwick Airport in London at 1:39 pm on 12 June. 36 seconds after flying, the crisis message was sent from the cockpit, which was received by Ahmedabad ATC. Radio connectivity broke soon after this. At 1:40 pm, the aircraft crashed at the hostel complex of Bij Medical College in Meghaninagar, just a few distance from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. In this accident, only one of the 242 passengers survived.
What is in the center of investigation?
The Ministry of Civil Aviation and other investigative agencies are recreating the last moments of the accident in detail. The conversation between CVR and the conversation between captain Sumit Sabharwal and first officer Clive Kunder in the cockpit is likely to be confirmed. This will reveal the pilot status, their response to the alarm and the decisions taken in the final moments.
Black box recovery
The aircraft’s black box was recovered 28 hours after the accident. It is usually bright orange color, so that it can be discovered in debris. Technical experts believe that the data received from this box will prove to be decisive in finding out the exact reason for this tragedy.
