The police have arrested a vicious auto rickshaw driver who targeted passengers in the national capital Delhi. The accused, along with their gang, stole gold jewelery worth about 20 lakh rupees from a couple’s bag. After the case came to light, a case was registered by Gandhi Nagar Police. The main accused Wasim was arrested. Cases have already been registered against him in many police stations.
According to the information, the incident took place on 27 June. A couple Sarai Kale Khan boarded Wasim’s auto from the bus terminal. After covering a short distance, Wasim made an excuse for technical fault in the auto and made him sit in another auto. This second auto was also part of the same gang. Wasim’s fellow was already sitting in it as a fellow passenger. But he did not let the couple realize this.
As soon as the couple sat between them, the gang members quietly cut their bag and took out the precious jewelry kept in it. On receiving the complaint of this case, a team of Gandhi Nagar Police started investigation and on the basis of secret information, Wasim was arrested on 10 July. Auto rickshaws used in theft and Rs 11,000 cash have also been recovered from his possession.
A senior official said that Wasim and his companions usually targeted passengers at major bus bases like Sarai Kale Khan and Anand Vihar in the morning. The way of the gang was that first the passengers were seated in the auto, then a little distance away and pretending to defeat them in another auto. During the journey, valuables were stolen from his bag in a vicious manner.
According to the police, at least eight criminal cases have been registered against Wasim in police stations like Kashmiri Gate, Geeta Colony, Kotwali, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Timarpur, Celampur and New Ashok Nagar. The police is now searching for the rest of Wasim’s gang. Along with this, the involvement of Wasim and his gang in such incidents in other parts of Delhi is also being investigated.
