The Supreme Court on Monday directed the municipal bodies of Delhi and NCR to immediately catch stray dogs and keep them permanently in the shelter home. The court said,

Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice R. Mahadevan’s bench said that Delhi, MCD and NMDC should pick up dogs from all areas, especially sensitive areas as soon as possible. If needed, make different forces for this.

In fact, the court raised the case on July 28, taking notice on July 28, when a report presented in Parliament raised concerns over the increasing cases of rabies in Delhi-NCR and the death of children and the elderly.

July 28- Supreme Court describes rabies deaths from rabies

On July 28, the Supreme Court took notice on the incidents of rabies deaths due to stray dog attacks. The court described it as extremely worrying and intimidating.

Earlier, Minister of State for Animal Husbandry, SP Singh Baghel had told in the Lok Sabha on 22 July that in 2024, more than 37 lakh dogs cases came. Apart from this, 54 people died of rabies.

The report is related to the death of Chitra Sharma, a six -year -old girl in Delhi. He was bitten by a dog on 30 June. He died on 26 July despite treatment.

In this regard, a bench of Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice R. Mahadevan had said that the facts of the report are extremely disturbing.

Order to place report in front of CJI The court had said that every day hundreds of cases of dog bites are coming up in Delhi and surrounding areas. Especially children and elders are falling in the grip of it. Rabies is spreading in many cases. The bench has ordered the report to be filed as a PIL. Also said that this report should be placed before CJI for appropriate orders.

Earlier on July 15, the Supreme Court had heard a petition demanding a place fixed for feeding stray dogs in Noida. It had expressed concern about public safety. A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta had said that if people want to give food to dogs, then give them to homes. The bench had said that two -wheeler drivers and in the morning walk in the morning, there is a danger of dog attacks.
