DGCA Air India Meeting Gives Strict Instructions Focus on Aircraft Safety Boeing 787 Ahmedabad Plane Crash

DGCA Air India Meeting: Air India flight has been greatly affected after the aircraft accident in Ahmedabad. On Tuesday, 9 flights of Air India were canceled one after the other, after which the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) held high level meeting with the top management of Air India and Air India Express. The DGCA has asked Air India to focus full on especially aircraft safety and maintenance.

What happened in the review meeting of DGCA and Air India?

Delay related to maintenance: Recently reported maintenance problems were raised in Air India. DGCA has asked the airline to strengthen coordination between engineering, operation and ground handling units and ensure the availability of necessary parts so that the delay of passengers is reduced and the rules are followed.

Aerspace Ban: Especially the recent aerspace closure in the Iranian airspace was reviewed, causing flight diversion, delay and cancellation. DGCA instructed the passengers and crew to inform them on time and adopt an alternative routing strategy.

Passenger Information and Facility: Operators were asked to give timely information to passengers and broadcast information through all available mediums under the provisions of Civil Aviation requirements (CAR). Emphasis was laid on ensuring the convenience of passengers.

Boeing 787 fleet monitoring: No major security concern was revealed under the recent monitoring on the B787 fleet of Air India. Aircraft and related maintenance systems were found to be in accordance with the current security standards.

  • Boeing 787-8/9 fleet enhanced safety inspection status (till 17 June 2025)
  • Out of a total of 33 aircraft, 24 aircraft have been investigated.
  • The investigation of 2 aircraft is to be completed today (June 17) and one will be tomorrow.
  • 2 aircraft (VT -ang and VT-AAT) are in AOG position in Delhi-they will be investigated before returning to service.
  • The remaining 4 aircraft are in the MRO- they will also be examined before release.

DGCA recommended to develop a system of defect reporting in real time, allowing important departments to get timely information and improve the decision making process.

Data operating wide-body flights: DGCA specially reviewed the recent operating report of the Boeing 787 fleet of Air India.

On Thursday (12 June 2025) in Ahmedabad, 787 Drimlineer aircraft of the Boeing company crashed. This Air India aircraft was 12 years old. 270 people died in this accident.
