Assam Congress condemned the attack
Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Bhupen Bora condemned the attack on Hussain and called it the failure of Chief Minister and Home Minister Sharma in maintaining law and order in the state. He said, “If the police do not take any action against the attackers, then it will have to be said that there is jungle rule in the state and people of Assam will be forced to accept that the police has become the weapon of the BJP’s hands.” After this incident, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi claimed that ‘democracy is in danger’ in Assam and the people of the state want to get rid of the alleged ‘Gunda Raj’ culture.
In the Lok Sabha, the Congress Deputy Leader said that the goons allegedly attacked a Congress Lok Sabha MP and police security officers in Assam in a busy market in broad daylight and tried to snatch their weapons. He said that all this has been recorded in the camera. Gogoi said, ‘Yet Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is refusing to ensure that the goons will be arrested immediately. The Chief Minister should at least think about his constitutional duty towards the Assam Police and innocent people present in the market. If the goons had got a machine gun, then a terrible accident could have happened.
