19 -year -old Divya Deshmukh has won the Fide Women’s World Cup of chess. In this tournament, Divya defeated several top seeded players and defeated Koneru Hampi in the finals in the Rapid Tybrek match and won the title.
Divya has now become the 88th Grandmaster and Fourth woman of India, who has achieved this achievement. Earlier on Sunday, the second game of the Fide Women’s World Cup 2025 final was also drawn.
Tie-breaker format
- Two rapid games, every 10 minutes + an increase of 10 seconds on every trick.
- If the score remains equal, two more fast games, every 5 minutes + an increase of 3 seconds on every speed.
- Still, if it remains equal, two blitz games, every 3 minutes + increase by 2 seconds on every trick.
- If the victory and defeat are still not decided, Blitz Games will continue to run in 3+2 formats until one player wins.
In the final, Divya faced Koneru Hampi in India’s final.
Hampi defeated Tingji Lei in the semi -finals
Hampi defeated China’s Tingji Lei in the tiebreaker in the semi -finals and made it to the finals. The first two arms in the tiebreaker were 15–15 minutes, including extra time.

Divya defeated former world champion
Divya defeated former world champion Tan Zhongyi 1.5–0.5 in the semi-finals. The 19 -year -old Divya won 101 tricks in the first game playing with white pieces.
He forced Zhongyi to make mistakes by constantly pressurizing the middle game.
Divya’s position was strong even after Queen’s exchange, although Jongyi tried to return to a time and took an edge. But in the lack of time, Jhongyi went wrong, taking advantage of which Divya was successful in winning with the lead of two pawns.
Playing with black pieces in the first game, Divya adopted a balanced strategy and draws the game. Jhongyi started with the ‘Queen’s Gambit Diclind’ opening, in which Divya maintained balance with the swap of the pieces. In the end, the two had one stop, one small pawn (bishop/night), and three pawns in the same part, causing the game draw.
Four women players of India made it to the quarter -finals
For the first time in this tournament, four women players of India Koneru Hampi, Harika Dronavalli, R.K. Vaishali, and Divya Deshmukh made it to the quarter -finals, a historical achievement for Indian chess.
