Ed raid in indore: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken major action in the disproportionate assets case against former Beldar Aslam Khan of Indore Municipal Corporation. The investigating agency has temporarily attached movable and immovable properties worth Rs 1.89 crore (almost) under the Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002 on Tuesday (February 18, 2025).

How did the municipal corporation become millionaire?

ED investigation revealed that Aslam Khan, who was a Beldar (temporary employee) in the Indore Municipal Corporation, was several times more than his income. It was not possible to acquire such a large property with government salary, which made it clear that this money was raised in illegal ways.

Which properties were seized?

The ED discovered Aslam Khan’s movable and immovable properties in the investigation, including:

, Many plots and houses in Indore

, Cash deposited in bank accounts

, Expensive vehicles and other movable properties

These properties have been temporarily attached by the ED, that is, they cannot be sold or transferred now.

How did a case of disproportionate assets come up?

The matter was revealed after receiving complaints of corruption and black earnings against Aslam Khan. The Lokayukta police first started an investigation, in which disproportionate assets were confirmed. After this, the case was handed over to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which started an investigation from the angle of money laundering.

More revelations possible in ED investigation

According to sources, Aslam Khan’s close relationship with political and other officials is also under investigation. The ED is also trying to find out if it had collected this property as part of a major corruption network.

Government strict on cases of disproportionate assets

Government and investigative agencies are taking rapid action on such cases. In recent years, there have been cases of disproportionate assets against many government employees and officers.

, In 2023, a Patwari had assets worth 100 crores in Madhya Pradesh itself.

, In 2024, property worth more than 300 crores was revealed from the house of an irrigation department officer.

Government’s appeal – report corruption

ED and other investigating agencies have appealed to the general public that if a government official or employee sees more assets than their income, then inform it. Public awareness is very important to eliminate government corruption.
