Emergency system of Air India flight going from Amritsar to Birmingham suddenly active, safe landing after RAT deploy – Air India Flight AI117 Rat Depluement Technical Alert Safe Landing NTC

The RAM air turbine (RAT) was deployed after a technical alert on Saturday in flight AI117 from Amritsar to Birmingham. The incident occurred just before the landing of the aircraft, ie during the final approach. However, all passengers and crew are safe and the aircraft made a safe landing at Birmingham Airport.

Air India released a statement

Air India issued a statement saying, “The operating crew of flight AI117 from Amritsar to Birmingham on 4 October 2025 came to know that the aircraft was deployed just before the landing. In the investigation, all electrical and hydraulic parameters were found to be normal, and the aircraft made safe landing.

‘Alternative arrangements being made for passengers’

The company further stated that under the standard process (SOP), the aircraft has been grounded at present, so that it can be investigated in detail. For this reason, the return flight AI114 coming from Birmingham to Delhi has been canceled. Air India said that alternative arrangements are being made for the affected passengers.

A spokesman for Air India said, ‘Security of our passengers and crew is our top priority. All systems have been found to be normal, yet detailed inspection is being done.

What is RAT?

Let me tell you, RAT (RAM Air Turbine) is active in the aircraft when an emergency comes in the main power or hydraulic system. It gets out of the engine and provides emergency electricity or hydropholic power with the strength of the air. However, according to Air India, no system was found to be found in this case.
