London: England have announced their playing XI for the first match of the five -Test series against India, which is going to start from June 20. Jack Caruli and Ben Docket will open in the playing XI announced on the evening of Wednesday, 18 June. Oli Pope will remain intact at number three.
England vice -captain Pope presented his claim by playing a brilliant innings of 171 runs in the only Test against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge, which was his only Test match in this season. Despite that innings, Pope was facing a challenge from 21 -year -old Jacob Bethel. The Pope has a 56 Test match experience and has eight centuries in his name.
