‘Open threats’

They are saying that the dargahs have qawwali and sing and singing are anti-Islam. The Global Sufi Organization represents 5,000 dargahs and their followers.

Sufi dargahs were being targeted since Sheikh Hasina’s government fell in Bangladesh. On 6 September, Hazrat Shah Poron Dargah was targeted by a crowd of fundamentalists. The Jamaat-e-Islami then called for a protest against the Sufi Dargahs, due to which the attacks increased further.

Government is not taking any step

The Yunus government has so far made only 20 arrests in the case of attacks on Sufi Dargahs, which is not enough to stop these attacks. The Sufi community has demanded security from the government. However, the government’s response has not yet been positive about this, due to which the spirit of insecurity in the community is increasing.
