Is ethanol blend fuel damage your car: The Government of India is expanding its green fuel policy rapidly by promoting ethanol-liquid petrol. It started with E10 (10 percent ethanol) and is now being extended to E20 (20 percent ethanol) at petrol pumps across the country. But in the meantime, the concern has increased among the people about the sudden ethanol blend fuel. Some vehicle owners have expressed concern about the damage to the engine of the vehicle from ethanol blend fuel.
Actually, the Government of India wants to reduce dependence on fuel import by promoting the use of ethanol-mix petrol. But the car owner, especially those who bought their vehicles a few years ago, are feeling that this is a loss for them. In recent times, many vehicle owners have expressed concern about the possible dangers of the engine with ethanol-head petrol, with the possibility that in old cars, the use of ethanol-balance fuel can not only negatively impact mileage but can also reduce the age of the engine, and even the repair costs can be overwhelming.
At the same time, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MOPNG), seeing this matter caught up, has described such concerns as “largely baseless” and “scientific evidence or expert analysis”. The Ministry has written a long article for this on the social networking site ‘X’, which describes the merits of ethanol blend fuel.
What is the ministry saying?
The official post of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas states said, “… … the notion that the ethanol mix in petrol is damaging vehicles or giving unnecessary problems to consumers, not based on real facts and lacks technical basis. The ethanol mixture is a visionary, scientific support and environmentally.”
No shortage in testing
According to the ministry, international studies on the impact of the use of ethanol-balance fuel have shown that carbured and fuel-injected vehicles were tested every 10,000 kilometers every 10,000 kilometers during their first 1 lakh kilometers, with no negative impact on the power, torque or mileage of the vehicle.
“Tests conducted by Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP) and Indian Oil Corporation (R&D) have confirmed that no significant changes have been seen in older vehicles, no significant changes on the use of E20 fuel, no significant changes, performance related problems or wear-ends.”
What does the government say on mileage of vehicle
Regarding the low mileage of vehicles on the use of ethanol blend fuel, the Ministry says that there is a slight decrease in mileage, due to low ethnol’s energy density compared to regular petrol. Which is an estimated 1-2% for four wheelers designed for E10 and calibrated for E20, and about 3-6% for other vehicles. However, this slight decline in the case of affidavit can be reduced even further through the use of better engine tuning and E20-Complaint Element. Whom the main automobile manufacturers have already adopted.
At the same time, the ministry also said that, “Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) have confirmed that E20-components with advanced components have started getting available from April 2023. Thus, the allegation that E20 fuel causes a huge decline in efficiency, is factually incorrect.”
What does the ministry say on mechanism and repairing?
On the use of ethanol, the ministry on the engine mechanism, carborate or fuel injector and expensive repair expenses says, “E20 fuel is well verified by BIS instructions and automotive industry standard. However, in some old vehicles, after a long use of about 20,000 to 30,000 km, some rubber parts/gackets may be advised to change. The vehicle can be easily done during regular servicing. “
Ethanol is economical and better for environment
The ministry said in its post that, “Ethanol replaces fossil fuel petrol and reduces CO2 emissions. India’s ethanol mixing program is operated through feedstock diversification. The production of ethanol is being produced not only by sugarcane, but rice, maize, poor food and agricultural resnants. Better than, but also environmentally sustainable. A study conducted by NITI Aayog on the emission of ethanol has been assessed that the use of sugarcane and maize -based ethanol is 65% and 50% less than the greenhouse gas emissions petrol.
Government counted benefits of ethanol
Regarding the benefits of ethanol, the post of the Ministry said that, “The octane number of ethanol is more than petrol (~ 108.5 vs 84.4), which means that, ethanol-petrol has a higher octane number than traditional petrol. Therefore, Ethanol uses high-octain fuel (~ 95), which becomes an option to provide high-octane fuel (~ 95), which is a choice of high-octane fuel (~ 95). Compression ratio is essential for engine.
“The vehicles that are equipped with the E20 complied engine or those who have been tuned are even better. A feature of ethanol is also that its evaporation is higher than heat petrol. Which reduces the temperature of Intake Manifold, which increases the aer-event mixture.”
Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said in a post on social media a few days ago about India’s ethanol journey that –
- The ethanol mixture has increased from 1.53% of 2014 to 20% by 2025.
- The production has increased from 38 million liters to 661.1 crore liters.
- There has been a savings of Rs 1.36 lakh crore in foreign currency.
- 698 lakh tonnes of coâ‚‚ emissions have decreased.
- In less than a decade, ethanol capacity has increased four times in less than a decade.
