Kantabanji railway station: On Tuesday (February 4) at Kantabanji railway station in Bolangir district of Odisha, railway security personnel recovered 12 TNT explosive cylinders from a freight train compartment. After getting explosives, security related concerns increased and all the security agencies including the railway police became alert. In view of the seriousness of the incident, senior officials of the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) immediately reached the spot and started investigating the case.
Confirming the incident, ADG (Railways) of Railways, Arun Bothra, said that the explosive cylinder was from the Ordnance Factory Badmal (OFBL) at Santala. He said that no legal action has been taken in this case so far as these explosives were associated with defense and accidentally left the station. However, investigation of this case is going on so that there is no such lapse in future.
Ordnance factory officials missed
According to GRP sources, goods were brought in two coaches from Maharashtra to OFBL. The factory officials had taken out explosive material from one compartment, but the goods kept in another compartment remained there. Due to this lapse, the explosive was left at the railway station itself, which increased the concern of the security agencies.
Explosives returned after confirmation of documents
Bolnagir Superintendent of Police Khilri Rishikesh Gyan Dev said that after examining the necessary documents, explosive cylinders were handed over to OFBL officials. He said that it was probably the fault of the officials receiving the consignment, but still the incident is being investigated in detail to ensure that no suspicious activity is involved in it. Security agencies have also taken the matter seriously and instructions have been given to take additional vigilance to ensure that there is no such negligence in future.
