A fake cardiologist has been exposed in Faridabad, adjacent to Delhi, who used to perform heart surgery for people by calling himself a cardiologist based on fake documents. The accused has done surgery of more than 50 people so far, many of whom have died. Based on the complaint of a victim’s family, the police have registered a case against the accused doctor under the relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code. The investigation of this entire case is going on.
The accused has been identified as Dr. Pankaj Mohan Sharma, who has only MBBS degree. Despite this, he had declared himself a cardiologist and had done more than 50 heart surgery in the last eight months. He was working in a heart center operated under Badshah Khan Civil Hospital in Faridabad. Police investigation has revealed that the accused was using the registration number of a real cardiologist and also had a fake stamp, which was printed by DNB (cardiology) degree.
This shocking case came to light when a patient contacted the real cardiologist after treatment and showed his papers. The doctor immediately identified that his registration number and certificate are being misused. This heart center was being run by Mediterina Hospital under public-private participation. It was here that Dr. Pankaj Mohan Sharma was appointed in July 2024.
According to the police, the accused used the registration number 2456 of a real cardiologist instead of MBBS registration number 28482. He himself ‘Dr. Pankaj Mohan (DNB Cardiology) was introduced and all the documents were found to be fake. Police say that after his treatment, many patients had serious complications and some also died.
On 11 April, advocate and social activist Sanjay Gupta filed a formal complaint against the accused. He alleged that the accused not only got a job through fake documents, but also did a deadly surgery. After the complaint, the accused stopped coming to the hospital. Real doctor Pankaj Mohan sent a legal notice to him in January and also complained to the Indian Medical Association.
Raja Ram, a resident of Palwal, alleged that on January 10, his father’s stent was put by Dr. Sharma and died the next day. Like Raja Ram, many more family members have also raised questions. However, the hospital administration is still avoiding sharing the number of patients who were treated by the accused.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jayant Ahuja has refused to comment on the matter. However, Dr. Pratap Kumar, President of Heart Center, has confirmed that when Pankaj Mohan Sharma was asked for his degree documents, he could not give any satisfactory answer. After this, his services were terminated. Faridabad police has registered an FIR against the accused. Detailed investigation is going on and action is being taken as per the law.
