Match referee Richie Richardson convicted Suryakumar for a violation after hearing. Level 1 means mild violation, such as inappropriate language or behavior. Surya Kumar has been fined 30 percent of the match fee. Surya has described herself as no gilt, although the ICC has just retained the sentence. Now the BCCI has also appealed against the decision and this matter is now with the senior committee of ICC.
The ICC’s code of conduct is in force from 2017, which keeps cricket clean and honorable for all. In this, violations are divided into four levels. The punishment at each level is different-penalty, warning, ban or demerit points. The demerit points are banned when it is four in two years.
In India-Pakistan matches, most levels of level 1 are violated, as the pressure is high. Slow over rate (not throwing over time) is the most common problem. Under Article 2.22 of ICC, 5% penalty is imposed on every delayed over.
1. 2007 T20 World Cup semi -finals: fined at slow over rate
The 2007 T20 World Cup was played in the semi -final Durban. India defeated Pakistan by 6 runs and made it to the finals – this was the first edition of the T20 World Cup, but after the match, both teams were fined a slow over rate. ICC match referee Roshan Mahanama imposed a fine on both teams, in which 10-10% match fees were fined due to being captain on MS Dhoni and Shoaib Malik and 5% match fees on other players of the teams.
2. 2011 World Cup group match: Slow over rate hit Pakistan
India and Pakistan competed in Mohali in the Group Stage of the 2011 World Cup. India won by 29 runs, but Pakistan was punished for a slow over rate. Captain Shahid Afridi was fined 20% match fees, while the rest of the team was 10%. This was a violation of Article 2.5.1 of the ICC code.
3. 2012 T20, Bangalore: Kamran Akmal fined
In the match, there was a debate between Ishant Sharma and Kamran Akmal, both Kamran Akmal and Ishant Sharma were found guilty of Level-1 and the ICC fined them.
3. 2019 World Cup group match: India fined
India won Manchester’s match by 89 runs in the 2019 World Cup. Rohit Sharma scored 140 runs in this match. India was fined 20% match fees for a slow over rate. Captain Virat Kohli and the team were charged with Level 1.
4. 2022 Asia Cup opener: 40% penalty on both teams
India won by 5 wickets in the inaugural match of the Asia Cup in 2022, but the match referee Jeff Crawu had cut both teams for a slow over rate. This was the highest fined ever.
5- 2025 Asia Cup: Haris Rauf fined, Farhan warns
Apart from Suryakumar, Haris Rauf, who pointed 6–0 during the Super-4 match of the Asia Cup, has been fined 30 percent. This was an aggressive behavior of Level 1. Batsman Sahibzada Farhan was warned for ‘gun fire’ celebrations. Rauf appealed not to Gilt Gilt, but it was rejected by the ICC. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said that ‘I will pay the fine of Rauf myself’.
