FIP requests DGCA, all Boeing-787 power system should be investigated intense

The pilots’ organization ‘The Federation of Indian Pilots’ (FIP) urged the aviation security regulator DGCA on Sunday (October 05, 2025) to conduct a thorough examination of the power system of 787 aircraft in the country.

The organization has written a letter to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), a day earlier, the Boeing 787 aircraft operated from Amritsar to Birmingham was seen in the Bing 787 aircraft.

Rat automatically active when both engines fail

Tata Group-owned Air India said in a statement, ‘Amritsar-Bermingham flight operating said that the’ RAM Air Turbine ‘(RAT) of Boeing 787 became unexpectedly active on October 4, but the aircraft landed safely.’

RAT becomes automatically activated in a state of stopping working of both engines or in a state of complete electronic or hydraulic failure. It uses air speed to generate emergency energy. FIP President GS Randhawa said in a letter to DGCA that Aircraft Health Monitoring (AHM) in Air India aircraft accident (AHM) found a malfunction in ‘Bus Power Control Unit’ (BPCU), due to which RAT would have been automatically operational.

What were the causes of Boeing-787 aircraft accident?

BPCU is a component of the electric power system of the aircraft. The pilots ‘organization said in the letter,’ (Birmingham Udaan) incident occurred when ‘RAM Air Turbine’ (RAT) became active automatically at 500 feet while entering Birmingham. Aircraft Status Monitoring (AHM) has detected a malfunction in BPCU.

In June this year, several possible causes of the Air India Boeing 787 aircraft accident are also include engine or hydraulic/electrical failure or software malfunction. The letter said, ‘There have been many accidents in B-787 aircraft. We have raised the issue of intensively checking the power system of all B-787 aircraft of the country before the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Aerial Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).

AAIB is investigating aircraft accident

AI’s Boeing 787-8 aircraft was going under the AI-171 flying AI-171 for London Gatwick on June 12. Soon after flying from Ahmedabad, the aircraft crashed in a medical college campus, killing 260 people, including 241 people on the aircraft.

Aaib is investigating this accident. It said in its preliminary report in July this year that the engine fuel control switch of Boeing 787-8 was closed a few seconds after flying. According to AAIB, one pilot asked the other why he did this and the other replied that he did not do so.
