An FIR has been lodged against TMC MP Mahua Moitra in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh. He is accused of making controversial remarks about Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Moitra is alleged to have said in a statement that Amit Shah should be “beheaded and placed it on the table.” This comment has created a stir in political and social circles.
Mahua Moitra’s statement was described as hatred
This case was registered at Mana Camp police station in Raipur. The complaint was made by local resident Gopal Samanto. His complaint states that democratic institutions have been insulted by Mahua Moitra’s remarks and such a statement is going to spread hatred in the society. Also, such a language can also become a threat to national unity and integrity.
The complainant says that making such a provocative and inflammatory statement by an MP hurts the dignity of democracy. They allege that this statement can incite outrage among the people, disturb peace and spread disharmony in the society.
The case against Mahua Moitra has been registered under two sections of the Code of Justice of India (BNS).
Section 196 (BNS): Provisions related to spreading enmity in society and disturbing social harmony. Section 197 (BNS): Comment against constitutional authority, which is considered harmful to national unity and integrity.
Police say that investigation has been started by registering a case on the basis of the complaint. The FIR also states that Moitra’s alleged remarks can cause anger in the public, the peace can deteriorate and the democratic environment may have adverse effects.
Discussion about this incident has started in political circles as well. Many people are considering it out of the dignity of speech, while some say that political differences should be kept in front of freedom of expression. At present, the police is investigating the case and further action will be on the basis of complaints and evidence.
