External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Chinese Vice President Han Zheng in Beijing on Monday. During this, he referred to the recent reform in India-China relations.
In a bilateral meeting between the two leaders, Jaishankar said,
India and China’s relations are continuously getting better since the meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping in Kazan in October 2023. 75 -year diplomatic relations between the two countries have been completed.
Jaishankar described the current international situation as complex and said that open talks between big neighboring countries like India and China are very important.
He told the Chinese Vice President that the resumption of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has been highly appreciated in India.
Jaishankar also supported India for the chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Jaishankar arrived in China after five years
This is Jaishankar’s first visit to China in five years. He has reached Beijing after a visit to Singapore. Jaishankar will also participate in the meeting of SCO Foreign Ministers to be held in Tianjin on 15 July.
Jaishankar met SCO General Secretary Nurlan Yermekbaye on Monday.
During this time he is also scheduled to meet Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Earlier in February, Jaishankar and Wang Yi met during the G20 meeting in Johannesburg. Where the two leaders had talked about increasing cooperation.
In June 2020, both sides were killed in a clash between the soldiers of India and China in the Galwan Valley. The relationship between its two countries became very stressful. Since then, no top leader of India visited China till this year.
Rajnath Singh participated in SCO meeting last month
Last month, there was a meeting of the Defense Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Kingdao, China. India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh attended it.
During this, Rajnath refused to sign the joint statement of the SCO. Because it did not include a terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, while Pakistan’s terrorist incident in Balochistan was mentioned. India expressed displeasure with this.
Rajnath Singh said in the meeting, ‘Some countries consider terrorism across the border as their policy. They give shelter to terrorists. Then deny it. There should be no place for such double standard. They have to understand that now the episoders of terrorism are not safe.
Rajnath Singh also participated in the group photo of the Defense Ministers of the countries included in the SCO.
What is sco Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a regional international organization founded in 2001 by China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Later India and Pakistan became its members in 2017 and Iran also became a member in 2023.
The SCO aims to increase security, economic and political cooperation among the member countries. The organization formulates a shared strategy on issues like terrorism, extremism, drug smuggling and cyber crime.
