Indian departation row: Three days ago, on February 5, 104 illegal expatriate Indians living in America were released to India. These Indians were brought to India by tying handcuffs and shackles in American military aircraft. There is a ruckus in Parliament for the last two days on this issue. Meanwhile, India’s Foreign Ministry has given another new update. Foreign Secretary Vivek Mistry has said that the US has issued a final expulsion order of 487 Indians. Please tell that 99 Indians were already ready for exile. In this way, this number has now reached 586. Along with this, America has also sent another list of 298 people to India.
In a special press conference before PM Modi’s proposed US visit, Foreign Secretary Vikram Egypt told on Friday (7 February) that US officials have informed India that they have been given ‘final removal orders’ for 487 potential Indian citizens. And identity details have also been made available in relation to 298 persons. When Vivek Mistry was asked whether the Government of India has raised the issue of inhuman behavior with Indians who were deployed Indians? So Egypti said, “Yes, we are constantly in touch with American officials on this issue and we have registered our concern on this matter.”
Why handcuff?
Egyptian was also asked about the allegations that many exiled people were handcuffed in the C-17 Globmaster aircraft who landed in Amritsar on Wednesday. On this, the Egyptian told reporters, ‘This exile on Wednesday was different from the exile, as you would know. This was slightly different because in the American system it was described as a ‘National Security Campaign’. Perhaps this is the only reason that military aircraft was used.
What for military aircraft?
Asked when the military aircraft was used to send back illegal Indian migrants from the US last time, the Foreign Secretary said, ‘I probably have to find out when the military aircraft was used last time. I do not know yet. He said that the SOP (standard operating process) which is publicly known, which was also ‘shared by American officials, has been in trend since 2012.
How many more people will come?
Egyptian also told reporters that there are ‘many categories’ of people returning from America. He said, ‘Some people come back and there are some who are expelled from America. This difference is due to the judicial process or the official and legal processes to be implemented. Asked whether more flights are going to bring more flights to the exiled, Egypt said that it depends on how many people to be sent back are confirmed as an Indian citizen.
The Foreign Secretary said, ‘If any country in the world is going to accept its citizens back, then he would like that whoever is coming back is the real citizen of that country. There are issues of validity and security are associated with this. Therefore, we are in constant touch with the US on this matter. He said, “As soon as information is provided to us, we do proper investigation and then take action.”
He also shared some data and said that India has been ‘very transparent’ with ‘our American counterparts’ on this issue. He said, “In the recent conversation, when we sought information about those who were potentially returning from the US, we were told that there are 487 potential Indian citizens, for whom American officials have a final expulsion order”.
How many people got information?
Egyptian said, ‘We have sought details, and identity details in relation to 298 persons have been provided to us. We have received this some time ago, and we are investigating it. We will respond to our American counterparts on these issues. About others, we have not been provided with the details yet.
Egyptian also marked the ‘real root of the problem’, which is ‘environment promoting illegal stay’. He said, ‘The gangs cheat innocent people and take them away from them and take them abroad, but they have to return in this way. Action is needed against such people and the Foreign Minister has also attracted attention to this. The government will have to work further on this.
On the issue of ‘misconduct’ being raised by many people, Egyptian said that this is a ‘proper issue to raise’. He said, ‘We keep telling the American officials that there should be no misconduct of the exiled people. We will continue to raise every matter of misconduct coming to our knowledge. Asked whether there was any protest in 2012, the Foreign Secretary said, ‘I don’t think any protest was lodged. We have no record of any opposition about this. Reiterating the views of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Egypti said that it is important to keep in mind that this process of exile is not new.
