Pakistan former PM Imran Khan: Former prison Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is jailed, has appealed to the international community, especially the US to reiterate his commitment to democracy, human rights and regional stability.
According to the report of Pakistani newspaper ‘Don’, this message was shared in an article published in the magazine ‘Time’.
Congratulations to Trump, hope of support from America
In the article, Imran Khan congratulated US President Donald Trump for his political return. He hoped to increase economic support and stability between the US and Pakistan. Khan also said that America should work closely with Pakistan to prevent conflict and extremism. However, it is not yet clear whether the article was actually written by Imran Khan or not, and how it reached ‘Time’ magazine.
Fight of democracy and allegations of political oppression
Imran Khan expressed deep concern over the alleged erosion of democracy in Pakistan. He said that the country is currently going through the most difficult phase of its history. Khan alleged that he was arrested under a political conspiracy and false allegations were made against him. He also said that this struggle is not only his, but is associated with the democratic future of the whole country.
International concern about Pakistan’s stability
Keeping in mind the strategic importance of Pakistan, Khan said that the international community should understand the seriousness of this crisis. He alleged that resources are being used for political vengeance against PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) by diverting attention from anti-terrorism efforts.
Questions raised in Pakistan politics
Irfan Siddiqui, chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of Pakistan’s Senate, said that the future of PTI is uncertain. The PML-N (Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz) senator said that PTI is talking about the agreement on one side and on the other hand publishing the law disobedience and “explosive” article in international magazines. Now it will be worth seeing how effective this appeal of Imran Khan will be internationally.
