‘From BrahMos test to Kakori scandal’ .. Why did Rajnath Singh tease memories of history in Lucknow?

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said at an event in Lucknow on Sunday (July 13, 2025) that the newly constructed integration and testing facility of BrahMos Aerospace in Lucknow will strengthen the country’s self -sufficiency in the defense sector.

At the National PG College, Lucknow, the Defense Minister unveiled the statue of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrabhanu Gupta and issued a postage stamp. On this occasion, Singh said, ‘A few days ago, I inaugurated the integration and testing facility of BrahMos Aerospace in Lucknow. This facility will strengthen the self -sufficiency of our country in the defense sector and it will also create employment.

Defense Minister praised former Chief Minister Chandrabhanu Gupta

He appreciated the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, due to which investment in the state is increasing and industries are flourishing. The Defense Minister said, ‘Historical changes are taking place in the infrastructure. Expressway, airport, metro, medical colleges… All these are presenting new pictures of development.

Lok Sabha member from Lucknow also praised former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrabhanu Gupta. Gupta was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh four times. Singh said, “Chandrabhanu Gupta started in the freedom movement as an ordinary worker and made a place in the hearts of millions of people with his sacrifice, commitment and leadership.”

Duties to renounce and protect the interests of the public

He said, ‘The life of Chandrabhanu Gupta tells us that power is not only a position or right, but to protect the interests of the people. His life also gives us the message that there can be differences in politics, but there should be no enmity.

Singh also said that Gupta was more public servant than a leader. He said, ‘When we discuss the glorious past of Uttar Pradesh, the name of Chandrabhanu Gupta comes naturally.’

The government’s expenses were reduced

Referring to the struggles of Gupta, Singh said that after the independence of the country, when the constitution came into force and the foundation of modern democracy, the country was struggling with many big problems and at that time the challenges and responsibilities of the administration were also very big.

Singh said that when Gupta became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, on the very first day he worked to reduce the salaries and allowances of ministers, so that the expenses of the government could be reduced. Today, people like Chandrabhanu Gupta have a huge contribution in laying the foundation of the administrative system working in the country and the state.

Resignation was given due to ‘Kamaraj Yojana’

He said, ‘Chandrabhanu ji did not remain in power for a long time, but he prioritized public welfare works. He was always known for his honesty. Gupta did not agree with the ‘Kamaraj Yojana’, due to which he resigned from the post of Chief Minister. You can imagine how an elected leader must have left the post due to the dislike of some people.

In the year 1963 (former Chief Minister of Madras) K.K. Kamaraj had suggested to Jawaharlal Nehru that senior Congress leaders should leave the post of minister to do organizational work. This suggestion was known as ‘Kamaraj Yojana’. Under this scheme, six Chief Ministers and six Union ministers resigned. Later on 09 October 1963, Kamaraj was elected President of the Indian National Congress.

Rajnath Singh said this about ‘Kakori incident’

Recalling the “Kakori Rail Action” of Lucknow on this occasion, the Defense Minister said, the Defense Minister said, ‘Our effort will be to celebrate the centenary year of Kakori incident in a grand manner in this city as well as other places. In August 1925, the revolutionaries fighting the freedom struggle looted the British treasury near Kakori railway station for India’s independence.

Singh said, ‘Kakori incident also included revolutionaries like Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaq Ullah Khan and Sachin Nath Bakshi. Many people were arrested in the Kakori incident and the British government filed a case against them all.

Big leaders advocate Kakori incident

He also informed that many big leaders like Madan Mohan Malaviya, Lala Lajpat Rai were standing in support of these revolutionaries and when the hearing of the Kakori scandal started, Chandrabhanu Gupta along with the famous advocate Govind Ballabh Pant stood in court on behalf of revolutionaries.

Singh said that Gupta proved his law to study in the interest of the revolutionaries of the country and proved that he was a true patriot and it is a coincidence that the 100th anniversary of the Kakori incident is also being celebrated this year.
