Yes, from today onwards, two -wheeler drivers running without helmets will have to face a big challenge. The Yogi Adityanath government has started no helmet, no fuel special campaign in the entire state from 1 to 30 September, giving the top priority of road safety. Under this initiative, if a person reaches the petrol pump without a helmet, he will not be given petrol.
The government believes that this step is going to make more people feel the importance of safety than punitive action. The campaign will be in the hands of the District Magistrate and the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) will play an active role in its operation. This campaign will also be monitored from Lucknow.
Yogi government’s strictness
The state government has given clear instructions to all the District Magistrates, Police Department, Transport Department and Revenue Administration to implement this campaign. The officials have been asked to not only follow the rules but also explain to the people that the helmet is not just a legal obligation, but a shield to save lives. Section 129 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 clearly makes it mandatory to wear helmets for both two -wheelers and riders sitting behind. At the same time, Section 194D also provides a provision of punishment on those who violate. The Supreme Court’s Road Safety Committee has also warned the states that helmet compliance should be implemented strictly to reduce the road deaths.

Officials say that the biggest strength of this campaign is that it is being run simultaneously in all 75 districts of UP. The District Magistrate himself will monitor it. The District Road Safety Committee has been given the responsibility to add all the concerned departments to make the campaign effective. It will be the responsibility of the police to conduct checking from place to place and warns without helmets. The Transport Department will take action against those who violate the rules and the revenue administration will support the monitoring of the entire campaign.
Now new picture on petrol pump
This campaign will show the most direct impact on petrol pumps. Now if anyone reaches the helmet, the pump employees will refuse to give him fuel. For this, the government has met all major oil marketing companies – IOCL, BPCL and HPCL and instructed them. Pump owners have been asked to ensure following the rules. Food and Logistics Department officials will go to petrol pumps and monitor and strict action will be taken if negligence is found anywhere.

Transport Commissioner Brajesh Narayan Singh said that the ‘No Helmet, No Fuel’ campaign is not a method of punishment. Its purpose is to develop safe habits in people. Previous experiences show that people soon get used to bringing helmets. This also does not have any negative effect on fuel sales. He further said that this effort of road safety will be successful only when citizens, administration and industry all take steps together.

He said that the government knows that only imposing rules does not change. Therefore, the Department of Information and Public Relations has also been included in it. People will be made aware through TV, radio, social media and newspapers. Putting posters and hoardings will be told that “helmet is life insurance.
