The Election Commission (ECI) has given a strong message to the Congress leader and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, saying that he should either submit a clear declaration and affidavit as per the rules, or demand public apology from the country for his false and misleading allegations.
In fact, Rahul Gandhi had made serious allegations against the Election Commission in the recent press conference, on which the Election Commission has now expressed strong objection. The commission says that Rahul Gandhi mentioned the case of Aditya Srivastava, while action has been taken in this matter only in 2018.
‘Allegations made by Congress leader not based on facts’
According to the Election Commission, the allegations made by the Congress leader are not based on the facts and this has tried to question the impartiality of the Commission. The Commission made it clear that in order to maintain confidence in the democratic process, leaders should make statements along with facts and evidence.
The Commission also added that if Rahul Gandhi has an official announcement or evidence to prove his allegations, then present them immediately, otherwise he should apologize to the country.
What did Rahul Gandhi accuse?
Rahul Gandhi on Thursday alleged that during the Lok Sabha elections held last year, there were more than one lakh fake voters in Mahadevpura assembly constituency of Bengaluru Central Parliamentary seat. He said that at least one voter who was registered at two polling stations and he voted in both places.
He allegedly stated the slides of some parts of the voting list that the same voter has been registered several times and the addresses are wrong. 80 people have been registered in a house with a room and voters of Mahadevpura are also registered in other states.
