Bangladeshi migrants on Friday protested against Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government, outside the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The protesters alleged that since the Yunus took over, especially after leaving the post of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2024, there has been a rapid increase in cases of atrocities on minorities. Outside the UN headquarters, protesters raised slogans of ‘Yunus Pakistani, go back to Pakistan’.
The protesters alleged that after the change of power, the situation of minorities in Bangladesh has deteriorated. Describing the condition of human rights as serious, a protestor said that violence has increased against Hindus and other minority communities since 5 August 2024, due to which many people have been forced to leave the country.
According to a report by news agency ANI, a protestor said that we are protesting against the illegal rule of Yunus, as after 5 August 2024, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to leave the country for security reasons and Younus had captured the country, since then there are killings of minorities, Hindus and people of other religions.
He said that millions of people had to leave their country, especially Hindus… The situation in Bangladesh is very bad, and that is why people have come here only to protest. The protesters demanded that Yunus should give up power and conduct elections.
Another protestor alleged that Yunus was pushing Bangladesh towards extremism and described the current situation as ‘Taliban country, a terrorist country’. He said that ‘We have come to protest against Younus in front of the United Nations today, making Bangladesh a Taliban country, a terrorist country and torturing Hindus, Buddhists, Christians and all religious minorities. Also said that we demand the release of religious priest Chinmay Krishna Das, which Mohammad Yunus has illegally kept in jail, we demand their release, they should leave the post.
The protesters alleged that the previous Sheikh Hasina government was illegally removed on 5 August 2024. A participant said that the purpose of our rally is very clear. Bangladesh’s democratically elected secular government, which was running former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was illegally removed on 5 August 2024. Since then, Dr. Yunus is connivating Bangladesh into a semi-taliban nation in a planned manner in connivance with Islamic forces and terrorist organizations.
