Report AccordingTokyo’s District Court has ruled that Google has violated a standard essential patent related to LTE modem in Pixel smartphone. Such patent products are essential for manufacturing. According to Pantech, Google Pixel is using the exact method mentioned in a patent to manage communication between the smartphone and the cell tower, while the patent license has not been taken.
The court said that the ban for Standard Essential Patent (SEP) may only be that the party has not tried to get a license for the respective patent. Google delayed the conversation and emphasized terms such as the Confident Claus, about which Pantech said it was completely non -essential. Google also refused to propose the appropriate royalty rate during the court proceedings, claiming that it would be very difficult to calculate it.
When Google refused to provide data in the court regarding the sale of pixel smartphones in Japan, the court banned the sale of the Pixel 7 series. Pantech has already filed a case to stop the sale of Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 as well as Pixel Pro models. If Google does not compromise with Pantech, the company may have to withdraw from Japan’s market.
