The responsibility of investigating the gang rape of a 20 -year -old student at Gopalpur Beach in Ganjam district of Odisha has now been given to the CID Crime Branch. A special crime branch team has reached Gopalpur to start an investigation into the matter, which is under direct supervision of CAW & CW Inspector General (IG) Shiney S. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has strongly condemned the incident, calling it a heinous and inhuman offense. He assured that criminals will be punished under strict legal provisions.
He said, “No criminal will not be spared.” This incident has spread widespread resentment in the entire state. Leader of the Opposition, Naveen Patnaik, expressed deep concern and urged the government to take strict measures to deal with such crimes. The National Commission for Women has written a letter to the DGP through Chairman Vijaya Rahatkar demanding immediate arrest of the remaining accused.
Ten people, including four minors, have been arrested on Tuesday in this case. A police officer said the incident happened on Sunday night, when a private college graduate student went to the beach on the occasion of Raja Utsav with her classmate lover. Initially seven people were detained for questioning, currently 10 accused have been arrested.
In her complaint lodged at Gopalpur police station, the victim alleged that when she and her lover were sitting in a secluded place on the beach, a group of 10 people came to her. Surrounded her lover and tied her hands and feet. After this, he was raped in turn. The accused were caught when they were trying to escape to another state.
SP Saravan Vivek M had said, “Three people gang -raped the victim girl, while seven people were standing surrounded. The first SIT was formed to investigate the matter. But now the responsibility of investigation was given to the CID. The police will request the court to request the court to be considered as adults, as they were involved in a heinous crime.
Deputy Chief Minister Vavati Parida said that necessary steps have been ordered to ensure that such incidents should not happen in future. This incident has created a sensation in the entire state, because tourists from far and wide come to the beach of Ganjam district.
