On the one hand, where excise duty on petrol has been increased by Rs 2, the government has decided to increase the excise duty by 2 rupees on diesel. After this, it was feared that the prices of petrol and diesel in the country will increase, but the relief is that with the increase in excise duty from the government, it has been said that it will not have any effect on the common customers.

Actually, excise duty on petrol and diesel in India is a tax imposed by the central government, which makes a large part of the price of fuel. At present, excise duty on petrol is Rs 19.90 per liter. At the same time, excise duty on diesel is about Rs 15.80 per liter. The public will not be burdened
The government may have increased excise duty on petrol and diesel, but it has denied the impact on customers. It has been clarified by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry that PSU oil marketing companies have been asked to increase the retail prices of petrol and diesel after the increase in excise rates.

Excise duty was reduced in 2022

In the year 2021, excise duty on petrol and diesel was ₹ 27.90 and ₹ 21.80 per liter. In May 2022, the central government had cut Rs 8 on petrol and Rs 6 on diesel as a relief, after which these rates were implemented. The base price of petrol and diesel in India is currently around Rs 32. On this, the central government is charging excise duty at Rs 33 and later different state governments charge VAT and cess according to their own, which increases the prices of diesel and petrol by three times.
