Panj ا Police has sought information about an account from Dating App Tinder in the case of social worker Gurpreet Singh Harinau, who was killed in Faridkot. Police suspect that this account is connected to Khadur Sahib MP and Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh.

The Faridkot police said in a letter sent to Tinder that they are investigating the murder of Sikh worker Gurpreet Singh Harinau. Harinau was shot dead on a motorcycle on October 9, 2024 while returning home from the village gurdwara. Harinau was a member of the radical organization ‘Waris Punjab De’ led by Amritpal Singh.
Police reached Tinder during investigation
During the investigation, the police have received a tinder account named ‘Amrit Sandhu’, which is suspected to be associated with Amritpal Singh. In a letter sent to Tinder on 26 May, police said that on 9 October 2024, a famous online worker named Gurpreet Singh was shot dead by two attackers on a motorcycle.
The deceased used to operate a Facebook page named ‘Harinau Tox’ and was vocal against Sikh fundamentalist Amritpal Singh. The police have clarified in their letter that the communication and data analysis of this tinder account found during the investigation can help the investigating agency resolve the case.
Amritpal’s name was related to the case last year
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav claimed in October last year that Harinau was allegedly murdered at the behest of Amritpal Singh. Amritpal Singh is currently jailed under the Strict National Security Act. The police have also claimed that gangster -turned -terrorist Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh Dalla was the main conspirator of the murder. Two gang shooters have been arrested in this case.
Information sought by police
The Punjab Police has sought extensive information about this account from Tinder. This includes subscriber details, name, date of birth, phone number, location information and IP address log from 1 January 2019.
The police have also demanded all the linked email ID and phone number, photos uploaded by the account and media files, list of friends/contacts and mutual matches, chat history and tinder platforms exchanged messages and any other details.
Amritpal is lodged in Dibrugarh jail
Amritpal Singh is an MP from Khadur Sahib parliamentary constituency in Punjab and is currently lodged under the National Security Act in Dibrugarh Jail in Assam. Amritpal, who is the head of the ‘Waris Punjab De’ organization and now he has also declared his party in the name of Akali Dal Waris Punjab De.
Amritpal was jailed along with 9 of his companions, but the NSA of his companions was abolished two months ago, but his NSA was extended for the third time.
