India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said on Friday (February 8, 2025) that the whiskey of Haryana is well liked in Europe and he came to know about this from a minister of Switzerland. He said in the Rajya Sabha that a minister of Switzerland himself came to him and made whiskey to Tarfi and said that it is famous in the whole of Europe. There is a premium whiskey there because it is very difficult to meet.
In response to a supplementary question in the Rajya Sabha on Friday, Piyush Goyal recalled an incident and said that he was stunned abroad when a minister of Switzerland came to him and said that ‘Single Malt Whiskey’ built in Haryana village. Likes very much. The minister told Piyush Goyal that this whiskey is very much liked in Europe, while Piyush Goyal had not heard its name either.
Piyush Goyal said in response to a supplementary question by Independent member Karthikeya Sharma that he was in Zurich (Switzerland) for a meeting three months ago. He said, “I was amazed when a Swiss minister told him that India has a whiskey which is famous all over the world and is also very much liked in Europe.”
Piyush Goyal said, ‘I do not drink whiskey and I was amazed to hear that … I did not know that this whiskey is sold in Europe’s markets as a premium whiskey and is not easily available.’ He said that this whiskey of Europe is produced in Indri, a small village in Haryana, according to the Swiss minister, it is more tasty than the whiskey of Europe.
He said, I was surprised to know that this whiskey is made in India. It is built in the village of Haryana, which is my home state. My family is from the original Haryana.
