Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his post on Monday night (July 21). The resignation at the beginning of the monsoon season shocked. Dhankhar has left his post citing health reasons. Vice President will have to conduct elections soon
After resigning from the post of Vice President of Dhankhar, the election will have to be held as soon as possible for the appointment of his successor. According to section two of Article 68 of the Constitution, elections should be held soon to fill the Vice -President’s death, resignation or to be removed from office or to fill the vacancy due to any other reason.
The Vice President is the second highest constitutional post in the country. His tenure is five years, but despite the end of the term, he can remain in office until his successor takes the post.
Who can be elected as Vice President
To become Vice President, citizenship of India is first necessary. The person is 35 years or more. He should not be eligible to be elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha. Also, the person is not eligible, who is working on the post of any profit under the Government of India, the State Government or a subordinate local authority.
