HMPV Virus in India: After China, Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) has also hit the country in India. However, Union Health Minister JP Nadda made it clear that there is no need to panic. At present there are a total of eight cases of HMPV in the country, which includes one patient in Karnataka, one in Gujarat, three in Maharashtra, two in Tamil Nadu and one in West Bengal. Meanwhile, a shocking revelation has come to light in which it has been claimed that the entry of HMPV was not in 2025 but in 2024 only. Between November 2024 and December 2024, around 30 cases of HMPV have been reported in Kolkata alone.

HMPV found in more than 30 people

According to the report of Times of India, 5 major laboratories of Kolkata had found HMPV in more than 30 people within a month. Among those patients, three-four were young and the rest were children. Among the children, there were patients less than three months old, who have now recovered completely. Most of the hospitals in the country are alert about HMPV cases and are planning to reduce its cases.

‘No need to panic’

According to the report, Yogiraj Ray, infectious disease expert and associate professor of IPGMER, said that there is no need to panic about HMPV. He said, “If the reports of surge in China are true, then we first need to know the genetic variant of the virus and then the status of the epidemic. If it is not causing problems in breathing, then it will not pose any major burden on the health service.” Shouldn’t happen.”

State governments issued instructions regarding HMPV

Regarding HMPV, the governments of different states have given instructions to ensure separate arrangements for the patients. In view of the cold and seasonal diseases in the state, the Rajasthan government has issued instructions to ensure separate OPD and IPD arrangements for patients infected with Covid, swine flu and influenza. Apart from this, instructions have been given to conduct genome sequencing of samples in Covid cases.

After the case of Human Metapneumovirus was registered in Gujarat, State Health Minister Hrishikesh Patel has appealed to the people not to panic. He said that the state government has made preparations to deal with the situation of possible infection. After cases of human metapneumovirus (HMPV) were reported in India, Union Health Minister JP Nadda on Monday said that the government is closely monitoring the situation and there is no cause for concern.
