HMPV in India: HMPV virus has knocked in the country. Along with this, the first case of HMPV virus has also come to light in Gujarat. The first case of this virus has been registered in Chandkheda area of Ahmedabad, where this virus has been found in a 2-month-old newborn baby. This child is admitted in Orange Children Hospital, Chandkheda Ahmedabad. When the first case was reported in the state, Pediatrician Dr. Nirav Patel of this hospital said, “There is no need to panic because of this.”
Doctor Nirav said that this is a virus like normal flu. This child was admitted to us on 24th December. He is from Modasa, Gujarat. He had cold and cough for two-three days. We kept the child on a small machine for two-three days, but the child’s oxygen was not being maintained, so we gave him the support of the ventilator machine.
‘Healthy children are at less risk’
Doctor Nirav Patel further said that after being on ventilator for about five days, his condition has improved a lot. Now the child has become fit for discharge. Actually he was a newborn baby and he already had problems with his lungs. That’s why this child was affected by it. However, if healthy children get any infection, there is no need to panic.
‘Elderly and children need to take more care’
Former AIIMS director Randeep Guleria said, “There is nothing dangerous in this. This is not a new virus. However, the elderly and children need to be more careful because they have low immunity and they get infected quickly.” There are more cases in winter because this virus remains in the air for a long time, so people need to take more care in winter. If children have fever then parents should not send them to school.
According to doctors Randeep Guleria and Nirav Patel, its symptoms are cold, cough and mucus secretion. The thing to keep in mind is that whenever you have cold and cough, use a mask and wash hands thoroughly 10-12 times.
