In Bangladesh last year, the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave a strict order to control the students protesters. The leaked audio of the former PM’s conversation with a senior government official shows that he had ordered the protesters to find and shoot.
1400 people killed in violence
According to the BBC report, Sheikh Hasina can be heard saying in the audio that she has instructed the security forces to use deadly weapons and ‘shoot them wherever they get (protesters), shoot them. According to the United Nations, at least 1,400 people were killed in the action taken between July and August 2024, as students were protesting against the disputed quota system in government jobs in Bangladesh.

It was due to protests that Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government fell in Bangladesh and had to flee to India on August 5, 2024. He has been in India since then, although Bangladesh has sent a formal request to India to extradite him. But at the moment no decision has been taken in this regard.
Awami League reacted
During the rebellion, Hasina, accused of mass murders, is under trial in a special tribunal in Bangladesh, so prosecutors have planned to use audio tape as an important evidence against her. In her first statement after leaving Bangladesh, Hasina described herself as innocent. But the recent leaked audio indicates that ‘shoot on site’ was given directly for the protesters on behalf of Hasine.
