Jagdeep Dhankar resigned as Vice President on Monday (July 21). The resignation was also accepted by President Draupadi Murmu. Talking on the Vice Presidential election process, OP Rawat said that if the term of the Vice President is going to end, then it is necessary to hold elections within 60 days before the end of the term. If the Vice President suddenly resigns or the post is vacant due to other reasons, then in such a situation, the election should be held as soon as possible. Usually such a process is completed in 45 to 50 days.
What is the election process?
OP Rawat said that according to Article 67 of the Constitution, the Vice President submits resignation to the President. After this, the government issues a notification that the resignation has been accepted. The Election Commission then announces the election date and issues another notification. Election officers are given special training so that the election process can be completed smoothly.
What is the method of election?
The Vice President is elected from the proportional representation under the single transferable vote system. Voting takes place only in Delhi and only members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha vote. Therefore the publicity period is not long.

Dhankar’s resignation: Monitoring notice became the reason?
Questions are being raised on the reasons behind Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation. In fact, two notices of impeachment given by the opposition in the Rajya Sabha against Justice Verma and Justice Shekhar Yadav became the reason for his resignation. According to opposition sources, Dhankhar was about to resign because they were planning to accept these impeachment notices of the opposition in the upper house of Parliament. In particular, 51 out of 55 signatures were found correct in the notice against Justice Shekhar Yadav, while minimum 50 signature is required.
In case of accepting this notice, it would have caused a lot of trouble for the government. The government was not looking active about this notice. The government felt that this notice should not come. There were some differences between Dhankhar and the government about this, as a result of which the matter came to health from politics within two and a half hours.
