Blockbuster became ‘Mahavatar Narasimha’, what director said?

Director Ashwin Kumar’s ‘Mahavatar Narasimha’ has earned more than Rs 169 crore in 16 days. In a special conversation with India Today/Aaj Tak, the director described it as absolutely tremendous and said that it is difficult to guess the success of the film at the box office.

He said, ‘When a film earns 100 crores in the first week, it really feels a big feeling. To be honest, I did not know that it would be so big. But the public gave it their voice, the voice came from their heart and once the trust wakes up again, no one can stop it. We are a country where different religions and culture live together, perhaps this is why the film has touched people so deeply.

‘We gave the audience a separate and grand animation experience, which is very low in Indian cinema. Most animation films in India are considered to be children’s things, but this film changed that thinking. There is some violence, but the film is entertaining for a person of any age, so people are liking it.

What did Ashwin Kumar say at the future of animation in India?

Ashwin Kumar further spoke on the importance of the success of this film for the Indian animation industry. He said, ‘This success will open the doors of many animation films. Producers and creators need to understand that animation is a powerful means. Hollywood, China, Japan and Korea have been doing this for years. It was still sad in India that this did not decrease. I hope that producers will take the animation from the same perspective as they have been taking live action films.

The director also talked about why animation was chosen for ‘Mahavatar Narasimha’. He told, ‘Animation was the right way for such a story. Narasimha Swamy’s eight hands in live action would have been difficult to capture the vast war and the destruction of the world. In animation, your thinking is the limit and there is no need for a star in the film, if the story is added then people come.

How hard did Ashwin Kumar work for the film?

‘Mahavatar Narasimha’ is a pan India film which took a long time to make. It was not easy for director Ashwin Kumar to put this film on screen. He had to throw everything in making this film. The director said, ‘I had put all my strength in making the film. Physical, mental, emotion, and financial. It was not an option for me to end. I asked for strength from Narasimha God many times, got his blessings and I kept moving forward.

Meanwhile, he said on the rumors flying about the budget of the film, ‘Some people say that the film was made in a budget of 15 crores, but the real budget was 40 crores, including marketing. It shows that a great film can be made even in a low budget if you have dedication in you.

What did Ashwin Kumar say on the reaction of the audience?

The director also spoke on the feedback coming from the people. He said, ‘The feedback that was going to touch the heart from the people was from those who lost their faith. Some people who had lost from life. He told us that this film has woken up his faith again. I have received these messages from some special children who have told their story. The connection, which has touched the hearts of the people, is its real success.

‘Mahavatar Narasimha’ was released at a time when ‘Saira’ was roaring in theaters. And films like ‘Son of Sardar 2’, ‘Dhadak 2’ were yet to come. In such a situation, on finding his place among those films, the director said, ‘My aim is not to compete with anyone. My producer and my wife were fully supported in making this film. This film is no longer mine, but a film of the people of India, all adopt it and take it to a place where it has the right.
